Rajadamnern Stadium, the home of Muay Thai, is a sports arena that doubles as a living museum, where eight decades of Muay Thai heritage is celebrated every night. While the energy of a Muay Thai fight is electric and certainly fascinating to watch, learning stadium etiquette enables spectators to fully appreciate what’s happening and allows everyone around you to enjoy the immersive Muay Thai experience as well.

What to Wear to a Thai Boxing Match

While there’s no strict dress code, it’s best to wear comfortable and respectful clothing suitable for the lively atmosphere when watching a Muay Thai fight at Rajadamnern Stadium. In general, opt for light and breathable fabrics suitable for Thailand’s climate, but bring a light jacket or pocket scarf just in case it gets chilly inside the air-conditioned stadium.

Tees, shorts, and jeans are typically allowed; however, be mindful of offensive slogans or overly revealing cuts. If you’ll be seated at the Ringside and VIP sections and wondering what to wear, we suggest wearing smart-casual outfits like collared shirts and dark jeans or trousers for men and smart blouses and pants or dresses for women. It may be more comfortable to wear closed, flat shoes instead of slippers or heels to a Thai boxing match.

What to Bring to a Muay Thai Fight

For convenience, we recommend using a bag with straps, such as a cross-body bag, so both hands can stay free when clapping, navigating the venue, and carrying food and drinks. It’s a good idea to have some cash on hand to purchase snacks and beverages from the vendors. Feel free to bring along a camera to capture all the action packed moments. You can also bring a small umbrella to keep you dry as weather in Bangkok can be quite unpredictable.

General Etiquette Inside the Stadium

Arrive early: Show up 30 to 45 minutes ahead of the match time so ushers can guide you to your seat without disturbing others who arrive on time. Keep your e-ticket QR code and bags ready for a quick scan at the entrance.

Wai Kru Ram Muay: The traditional pre-fight ritual is a solemn part where fighters pay respects to their teachers and ancestors. At this time, everyone should be seated quietly with phones in silent mode.

Photography and filming: Rajadamnern Stadium’s circular architecture offers unobstructed views from every seating tier, so you should be able to take no-flash photos from your seat without standing.

Live betting: Rajadamnern Stadium is one of the few places in the country where you can witness legal, public betting on Muay Thai. However, foreigners can only observe. Only local bettors are allowed to participate in this practice.

Mutual respect: While the atmosphere during fights can be lively and exciting, and cheering is encouraged, it’s best to be mindful of others around you and avoid inappropriate behavior and language.
